Occasionally, we will import csv data to excel and found out excel does not recognize the text column as DATE format. This will give us problem when we want to change the date format , i.e to mm/yyyy or mm-yyyy. As above, Excel does not recognize “2020-01” as DATE, hence we need to convert text to date manually.
Convert TEXT to DATE
First, select the data for conversion. Select DATA tab and Text to Columns. Choose Delimiter and TAB and choose YMD (year month date).
When we choose YMD, excel will automatically convert the text to date format based on YMD sequence.
When you click finish, you are able to manipulate the data in date format. Try to change to different date format by right click and choose format cell and you are done.
